Our history
“The idea behind Vom og Hundemat started in the mid-90s. At that time I worked as a butcher and sausage maker, and had long experience with both raw materials and meat production. One day an old acquaintance got in touch – his dog was seriously ill, with no appetite and in steadily worse shape. None of the dog food available on the market worked, and I decided to try to help him. I made a mixture of raw meat and fish, and the result was remarkable. The dog gradually regained both its strength and appetite, and eventually made a full recovery! This experience sparked an idea in me: What if more dogs could have access to natural and raw dog food? In the year 2000, the company Vom og Hundemat AS started production of this very dog food in Trøgstad, Østfold. It all started on the kitchen counter at the farm belonging to my wife Henni and me.
Eventually, I was also contacted by the dog-mushing community, who were looking for a better feed with more energy and nutrition to help their dog teams withstand the strains they were subjected to during races and training. In 2003, Robert Sørlie won the legendary Iditarod race in Alaska – the world's longest and toughest sled dog race, measuring a massive 1,600 kilometres. His dogs were fed Vom og Hundemat, and the results spoke for themselves. Gradually, word began to spread «from dog person to dog person», and without any planned expansion, the quality of our products has taken us far beyond both Trøgstad and Norway.
Today, most people know us as VOM. We still supply feed to world-class dog mushers, but today family dogs, companion dogs and working dogs also get VOM in their food bowls every day. VOM is suitable for all dogs – regardless of size, breed or area of use. This is dog food made on the dog's own terms.
Production still takes place on the farm in Trøgstad to this day, though now in more modern and larger premises. My eldest son Ole Magnus has taken over the baton as general manager, and my youngest son Vegard as operations manager. Our shared goal remains to work hard every single day to make the most natural and nutritious dog food.

We are a family business that produces raw food for dogs and cats. We are based on a farm in Trøgstad, Indre Østfold, and we have been located here since our inception in the year 2000. Over time, the factory has gone through several expansions and construction projects, and today we have a state-of-the-art production facility with a more automated manufacturing process.
We are constantly making investments to maintain efficient and safe production.
The company currently employs over 30 permanent staff in various positions. We have employees with extensive experience and higher education within food production and nutrition, and we are all genuinely passionate about what is best for our four-legged friends.
Recipes from nature
– Norwegian produce
VOM is made from fresh, raw and natural ingredients that are minimally processed. Both the dog and the cat are carnivores, which by nature are built to eat mainly meat and offal from prey in order to meet their nutritional needs. You will find those same ingredients in VOM’s products.
We only use Norwegian animal raw materials, from abattoirs that are approved and inspected suppliers of meat for human consumption. Norwegian livestock are among the healthiest animals in the world, and the Norwegian Food Safety Authority sets stringent requirements for livestock production regarding animal welfare, animal health, and hygiene.
When we make dog food, we have to comply with the same strict requirements for quality control and hygiene as human food manufacturers. In addition, we set ourselves very strict standards throughout the entire production process – right from the raw materials we buy to the finished product. Good routines and extensive experience ensure safe end products for you as a customer.
We do not add preservatives to extend the shelf life, or water beyond what is naturally present in the meat, which means that the composition and nutritional content of the ingredients are well preserved. A raw diet is natural and biologically appropriate, and builds a stronger immune system and a healthy body!

Sustainable and locally produced
production
In addition to producing nutritious dog and cat food, VOM's ideology is to contribute to sustainable development and reduce food waste. We use offal and trimmings left over from the animal after we humans have taken what we want to eat ourselves. These are raw materials that we used to eat in Norway, but which are less common to see on the dinner table today. Liver, lung and kidney are examples of nutritious raw materials that we transform into quality dog food. As a Norwegian company that uses Norwegian raw materials, we also contribute to locally produced, efficient and sustainable production.
