Robert Sørlie

Robert Sørlie is considered part of the «VOM family». We have collaborated and supported each other since the very beginning in Trøgstad in 2002. Robert is Norway's most successful mushing athlete in long-distance dog sledding. He has always sworn by raw dog food.

«Without the right diet, the huskies over the years would never have performed as well as they have,» says Robert. «Or rather, they would never have managed the trials they have been subjected to if the feed had not been nutritious and rich in protein, fat and minerals. Like us humans, all dogs, not just sled dogs, regardless of size, breed or use, deserve a proper diet,» he emphasises. VOM will be on the menu as long as he has dogs.

He started with dog sledding as far back as 1970. In 1992 he became Norwegian champion in middle distance and in 1993 he received the King's Cup when he won the Norwegian long-distance championship. He also became Norwegian long-distance champion in 1995.

Robert won the Femund race for the very first time in 1990, and the Finnmark race for the first time in 1995. In total, he has as many as thirteen victories in the Femund race and three victories in the Finnmark race. It is no coincidence that Robert is popularly known as the «King of the Femund Race».

In 2002 he made his debut by finishing in 9th place in the Iditarod, the world's longest and toughest dogsled race (approx. 1,600 km), and with that achievement became the top rookie that year.

Already the following year, in 2003, he won the entire race! He repeated this feat in 2005 as well.
It took a full 15 years before anyone else from outside the USA won the Iditarod. Overall, he has passed well over 50 dog sled races. The achievements are many!

Robert retired as a firefighter at Oslo Airport Gardermoen in 2020, but he isn't resting on his laurels for that reason. He is now a full-time musher, has just under 30 dogs in his kennel and much of his time is spent training them. We have a strong feeling that Robert hasn't run his last dog sled race. ☺

Vom og Hundemat is proud to have Robert on Team VOM.

«Without the right diet, spaniels throughout the ages would never have performed as well as they have.»
