Robert Sørlie «King of the Femund»
Robert had a nice chat over coffee with us at VOM during an otherwise busy time for a dog handler. In the interview, he speaks openly about his eventful career, his passion for the dogs, the sport, what motivates him and his preparations for the upcoming Femundløpet and World Championships at Røros.
His mushing career started over 50 years ago, and he is Norway's most successful long-distance dog musher. His achievements are many! He has raced the Iditarod 6 times, the world's longest and toughest dogsled race, and won twice, in 2003 and 2005.
Next week marks the 35th anniversary of the Femundløpet, and Robert is lining up for the start for the 35th time. He has started and finished every single race that has been organised. He has won the race overall 14 times – the first time in 1990 and the last time last year, in 2024. It is no coincidence that Robert is popularly known as «The King of the Femundløpet». It is impressive and utterly brilliant!
A few weeks ago, between training and preparations for the upcoming Femund race/World Championships at Røros, we were visited by Robert here in Trøgstad. There was a nice chat with our employee, Asbjørn Kokvik, over a good cup of coffee. Here, he shares moments from his long career, his passion for the dogs, and the sport he practises. With a great atmosphere and a twinkle in his eye, the conversation provides a genuine and honest insight into what it takes to achieve the goals he sets for himself and what motivates him.
Robert is considered part of the «VOM family». ❤️ We have collaborated and supported each other since VOM saw the light of day 25 years ago.
We are naturally proud to have Robert on the team and, not least, grateful for the trust.
